Supervision In the Age of Climate Change

At a time when climate change is noticeable on a daily basis globally, the growing share of IT equipment being used needs to be assessed.

With its headquarters based in the Alps, surrounded by sumptuous nature, EV Observe could not miss talking about climate change and the impact IT plays on it.

The carbon footprint of IT

  • 10% of global electricity consumption comes from IT services and devices
  • Carbon footprint of more than 3.7% of GHG emissions -- more than civil aviation -- that could reach 8% by 2025 (i.e., the global equivalent of cars and motorcycles)
    • users: 47% of emissions
    • networks: 28% of emissions
    • data centers: 25% of emissions

Sources of consumption and pollution that have yet to be evaluated on a large scale:

  • Manufacturing and recycling of electronic components
  • Disposal and renewal of devices
  • Connected objects and Big Data

Some of these factors leading to climate change require society to question our model of consumption and device usage to implement processes for the future to slow the rate of impact. Whereas others need to be addressed now and cannot wait for businesses and society to adjust.

Supervision goes green

A good place to start for businesses is to use EV Observe. EV Observe allows your business to lower its carbon footprint through it’s “Green IT” features and practices into your IT department.

Used effectively, EV Observe allows:

  • A reduction in the volume of user emails and associated traffic
  • Avoidance of road trips for technicians when treating device and software issues
  • Adjustments to resources based on capacity analysis reports

Our planet is unique, let's preserve it. The virtual world cannot exist without the real one.
